TCL continues to cultivate mass(ive) TV sizes

TCL’s media day presentation was focused around all the various ways you can look at their display technology. The dreaded (by r/hometheater) S-4 is no more going into 2024 as the entry level model from TCL and instead that entry point will now by the S-5. One thing about TCL is they always have the “older crowd” in mind when pitching their entry level displays, and true to form the S-5 TCL now comes with an entry level AI processing chip to enable enhancements to the viewing experience like dialogue enhancement as well as better picture processing.

Moving on up the model range, the main theme is “more, better, more better, and beyond” highlighting the insane levels of brightness TCL can squeeze out of their mini-LED technology. The QDLED Q651G is the next step up from the S-5 and will be 20+% brighter than the comparable 2023 model. Buyer beware, TCL continues to love to use vague language to flex up what their lower end panels are capable of, and you’ll only get true 120hz panels if you go 85 inch or above, the smaller models are 60hz panels.

THe higher range QM751 will feature 1500 dimming zones, which should lead to better blacks and a much brighter picture. The QM751 is also IMAX certified as well as AMD FreeSync Certified. Finally, in terms of “normal” TVs we get the QM851 the flagship for TCL this year. This TV will feature 5,000 dimming zones and a reported peak brightness of 5000 nits.

TCL does not want to lose out more market share to Hisense who just hours ago debuted a 110 inch screen, TCL will be releasing a MASSIVE 115 inch screen that they boasted 20000 dimming zone with 10000 nits of peak brigtness. TCL is one of the only display brands continuing to stay away from the projector/laser TV market instead going bigger and bigger with their TV sizes.

On the none TV front, TCL is jumping into the smartphone market feet first, with seven phone models to release in 2024, with some of these phone models using their new NXTPaper display technology, which was designed to reduce the painpoints of smart phone displays on the eyes and in the sun. On top of the phones, they’ll also be realeasing a duo of tablets with NXTPaper displays.

Finally, they wrapped it up by debuting a new model of their Rayneo AR glasses, the Rayneo X2 Lite, which are augmented reality glasses with transparent micro-LED displays capable of 1500 nits of brightness and real time translation and directions. We’re getting closer and closer to a true world of Heads up Displays and we’re only on the MEDIA days at CES thus far.
